      Python Certifications – Which ones are the Best, Cost, and Worth

      Python stands among the world’s most commonly used programming languages. It is not just reputed as a general-purpose (beginners) programming language, but it has set solid roots in highly specialized and complex environments as well. For example, many companies now prefer to opt for Python as a data science language.

      In simple words, individuals that are interesting in getting Python developments jobs can easily find plenty of work opportunities, all with attractive salary figures. But the main question is whether getting Python certification necessary to secure the dream job? Based on the current market demand of Python, there is no clear Yes or No answer to it. But we will explore more about Python, its certifications, cost, and worth in this blog so that you can make the right decision on your own.

      The Demand of Python Developers

      If you are not a newbie in Python, then you must already know that Python developers are highly in demand. As per Burning Glass, a platform that gathers and examines hundreds of thousands of job postings all across the country, the jobs centric to Python developers are expected to grow by 30.7% over the next decade. As of now, the time it takes to fill a Python developer job position is 38 days, which implies that employers have to struggle a lot in finding the right candidates.

      From the salary perspective, the average Python developer salary is $93,386. But getting this sum of compensation as a Python developer requires that you hold skillsets and some experience. Following are some of the skills that are often cited in job postings related to Python developer:

      If you hold a grip on some of the skills listed above, then you might think is there still a need for you to get Python certification? Let’s have a more in-depth look at it!

      Is there any Official Certification by Python?

      Python does not have any “official” certification program. There was a time when the Python Software Foundation was considering introducing official certification, but the idea was dismissed. The Python certifications you see today on the internet are from different third-party companies and instructors that have crafted their own certifications.

      How many Python Certifications are available today?

      The brief answer is “a lot”. Since there is no official Python certification program, so it has let dozens of companies launch their own certifications. Therefore, if you search Python certification program, you will find a long list of certifications provided by different platforms. But there are two certifications that are most commonly offered by platforms, as follow:

      • PCPP – Certified Professional in Python Programming
      • PCAP – Certified Associate in Python Programming

      Microsoft is also offering a certification in Python known as MTA 98-381: Introduction to Programming Using Python, which highlights that the certified individual knows how to write, modify, and understand Python code, along with recognizing different Python data types.

      The edX platform provides a link to different courses offered in Berkeley, IBM, and other schools. Opting for these courses get leads to accessing highly professional certificates. For example, IBM program of Professional Certificate in Python Data Science or online certificate programs by Cornell (via eCornell) and Standford.

      The best aspect about different Python certification courses is that most of them usually focus on some specific aspects of Python, like data science, so such courses are a great way to increase your Python skillsets.

      Python Certification Cost

      There is no standard cost structure for Python certification and it mainly depends on which platform you choose. For example, Coursera provides a $399/annual subscription plan that includes different courses that are co-offered via the University of Michigan. Meanwhile, courses at Udemy are usually around $200/course, which are often available at $10/course in routine sales. On the other hand, the Python Institute demands $195 for the PCPP1 & PCPP2 exams, while $295 for the PCAP exam.

      Other than paying for coursework and exam, there are also some online platforms that provide coursework for free. But you will not earn a certificate in that case. So, if you think that your Python skills are strong enough to secure a job, then you can opt for the free coursework just to enhance your knowledge.

      Is Python Certification really worth it?

      If you are somewhat experienced in Python and looking to get a certification to increase your skills level, then it’s perfect. Getting one or more Python certifications does not decrease your chances of securing a job or getting a promotion, so you can consider getting certifications with SCP Academy, but it’s not mandatory.
