Cisco introduced the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification in 1998. For 21 years now IT Networking professionals have made a good use of the Cisco networking skills. The CCNA is the most in-demand certification for individuals beginning their careers as networking professionals. Since the IT work-space is changing Cisco had to make dramatic changes as well to be relevant in the networking marketplace hence they changed the scope of the CCNA for 2020.

What Changed?

A new redesigned CCNA program to prepare IT Professionals for today’s networking-level job roles. The new CCNA now includes security, automation, and programmability. The CCNA will be made up of one exam and one training course that covers a broad range of fundamentals for IT careers and enabling IT Professionals to change directions and paths much faster.

• Security fundamentals
• Automation and programmability

What Are the Prerequisites?

Till now there are no formal prerequisites for CCNA certification, but you should have a basic understanding of the exam topics before taking the exam.

CCNA candidates they usually have:

• Some experience in implementing and administering Cisco solutions
• Knowledge of basic IP addressing
• A good understanding of network fundamentals

When Can I Take the New CCNA Exam?

The new CCNA exam goes live on February 24th, 2020.

What is the Number of the New Exam and What is the Course Title?

The new exam number is 200-301 and the course title is Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions (CCNA).

What Does the New CCNA Replace?

The new CCNA replaces the following certifications:

• CCNA Cloud
• CCNA Collaboration
• CCNA Data Center
• CCNA Industrial
• CCDA
• CCNA Routing and Switching
• CCNA Security
• CCNA Service Provider
• CCNA Wireless

What if I’m already studying for my CCNA?

If you are already studying for any current CCNA or CCDA certification keep studying but bear in mind that  you can take the exam until February 23, 2020.

If you already have Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) certification and would like to earn CCNA, you have until February 23 to complete your CCNA certification in the current program. As of February 24, you will need to take the new exam to complete CCNA certification.
